Transparency International Pakistan in collaboration with University of Peshawar organized second monthly meeting of Youth Climate Education and Fellowship Programme 2024, at Business Incubation Centre, University of Peshawar. The meeting, titled \u201cClimate Change Literacy\u201d was attended by youth fellows and university faculty.<\/p>

The session was led by Dr. Muhammad Nauman, Associate Professor of Environmental Chemistry, University of Agriculture, Peshawar.<\/p>

Dr. Muhammad Nauman explained that climate change is primarily driven by human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, leading to global warming, shifting weather patterns, and rising sea levels. He highlighted Pakistan\u2019s vulnerability, ranking eighth in the world for climate risk, despite contributing only 0.9% of global greenhouse gas emissions. He highlighted that the country has experienced a 0.63\u00b0C increase in temperature over the past century and rising sea levels, especially along Karachi’s coast.<\/p>

To mitigate these impacts, Dr. Nauman emphasized the transition to renewable energy and improved energy efficiency. He also discussed the importance of adaptation strategies, like building climate-resilient infrastructure and enhancing agricultural practices to cope with changing conditions.<\/p>

At the end of the session, participants asked questions, seeking further clarification on various aspects of climate change.
