Workshop: Mobile ALAC – Free Legal Advice Camp

Summary:
Transparency International Pakistan in collaboration with Movement for Rural Development Organization (MRDO) arranged a free legal advice camp (Mobile ALAC) in KhazaKhela, Swat, with the following objectives:
- To provide community a safe platform to report their issues/complaints.
- To enhance awareness about the Importance of Accountability and RTI laws
In the ALAC Mobile camp, Advocate Aizaz Ali, provided free legal awareness and information to the citizens and provided legal solutions to the complainants.
Mr. Ashfaque Ahmed, Project Coordinator TI Pakistan explained the objectives of the legal advice camp and raised awareness against corruption and mismanagement to encourage citizens to report it. He informed the citizens about different avenues for raising their voices and reporting corruption including at the Legal Advice Centre run by TI Pakistan. He also bried the participants about TI Pakistan, its working, and the key projects and initiatives.
Citizens highlighted issues and sought legal advice for problems pertaining to:
- Lack of rehabilitation activities after the last year flood
- Compensations were not given to the last year flood victims.
- Shortage of medicines
- Water Supply issues
- Benazir Income Support Program issues
- Electricity Complaints; overbilling
- Broken roads, use of inefficient material in the construction projects of the government
- Corruption in the public projects
Legal advice was given to the complainants. Furthermore, TI Pakistan will scrutinize all the complaints against sufficient evidence and write to the authorities for appropriate resolution.
