The Orientation Session of Youth Climate Education and Fellowship Programme 2024

On April 16, 2024, Transparency International Pakistan in collaboration with University of Peshawar organized the Orientation Session of Youth Climate Education and Fellowship Programme 2024 at Business Incubation Centre, University of Peshawar.

Dr. Shakeel Khan, Lecturer, University of Peshawar and Director, Business Incubation Centre welcomed the participants. He highlighted the objectives of the Youth Climate Fellowship that the fellowship focuses on capacity building, equipping youth with skills to lead and promote accountability in climate initiatives. He informed the students that the University will host interactive sessions with climate and governance experts and policymakers. Fellows will learn about climate literacy, local and global climate policies, climate finance mechanisms, and social accountability tools, including the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Act, 2013.

Dr. Bushra Khan, Professor – Department of Environmental Sciences, and Director, Planning and Development, University of Peshawar emphasized the importance of the Youth Climate Fellowship in empowering the next generation of climate leaders. She highlighted that the program would provide fellows with valuable knowledge and practical tools to address pressing environmental challenges. Dr. Bushra also underscored the fellowship’s role in promoting youth engagement in climate governance and policy-making, paving the way for sustainable and impactful climate solutions.

Towards the end, a total of 40 fellows were selected from the 80 students who attended the previous session, based on their demonstrated interest and knowledge in climate change and governance, to participate in the fellowship.
