Transparency International Pakistan Observes December 9th as International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) 2024
Transparency International Pakistan (TI Pakistan) marked International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) 2024 on December 9, 2024, in ten districts throughout Pakistan focusing on the theme “United with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity”.
The seminars and walks took place in Districts Kohat and Haripur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Districts Jaffarabad, Hub and Quetta in Balochistan province, Districts Nawabshah, Mitiari and Karachi in Sindh province and Districts Layyah and Nankana Sahib in Punjab province.
During the events, a large number of participants including citizens, women, youth, people with disabilities, civil society and government stakeholders participated in the anti-corruption activities. Around 392 people attended the activities throughout Pakistan including 126 women and 20 people with disabilities.
The events emphasized the importance of social accountability tools such as the Right to Information and whistleblower protection for highlighting corrupt practices. Speakers and participants highlighted that corruption affects every aspect of people’s lives, hindering Pakistan’s development and prosperity.
During the country-wide commemoration, TI Pakistan underscored the dire need for accountability, integrity and the participation of the youth in combating corruption. Youth make up the majority of the country’s population yet their inclusion remains limited. Therefore, TI Pakistan also urged sufficient participation of the young generation in the decision-making processes and policy frameworks through skills development and awareness.
