Transparency International Pakistan Observes International Anti-Corruption Day 2024

On December 9, 2024, Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) commemorated International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity: Uniting Against Corruption for Climate Justice.” The event highlighted the critical intersection of corruption and climate change, emphasizing the urgent need for integrity and accountability in addressing the climate crisis. TIP’s activities aligned with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) principles, reaffirming the organization’s unwavering commitment to promoting transparency and combating corruption in Pakistan.

TIP organized a nationwide initiative that included awareness-raising seminars, walks, and debates across 10 districts in Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh. These activities engaged 385 participants, including 168 women, 192 men, and 25 persons with disabilities, representing diverse individuals such as youth, women, and persons with disabilities, civil society members, media representatives, government officials, and academics. The events underscored the critical link between corruption and climate change, advocating for transparency, accountability, and integrity as key pillars for addressing the climate crisis.

Participants took part in thought-provoking activities that focused on climate justice and envisioning a corruption-free future. The events provided a platform for diverse voices to share insights and collaborate. Experts delivered presentations on promoting climate integrity through youth-driven strategies, inspiring attendees to actively contribute to the fight against corruption.

A significant aspect of the discussions centered on the role of youth in leading the anti-corruption movement. TIP emphasizes the importance of empowering young people by equipping them with skills, platforms, and opportunities to become champions of integrity. Recognizing their potential to drive transformative change, TIP urged their active involvement in shaping a future free from corruption.

The campaign also highlighted the necessity of a collaborative approach that includes grassroots stakeholders, government bodies, and local communities. TIP underscored the importance of fostering partnerships and engaging in inclusive dialogues to strengthen governance systems in Pakistan. Participants were encouraged to adopt anti-corruption practices in their personal and professional lives, emphasizing that collective responsibility is crucial for achieving meaningful change.

Through its observance of IACD 2024, TIP reiterated its dedication to combating corruption, particularly in the context of climate justice. The organization reaffirmed its vision of a society rooted in integrity, transparency, and accountability. By uniting diverse stakeholders and fostering a shared commitment to ethical governance, TIP continues to lead efforts to create a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable Pakistan.
