UoP, TI launch climate fellowship programme

PESHAWAR: The University of Peshawar and Transparency International have launched ‘Youth Climate Fellowship Programme’ to empower youth to tackle environmental challenges

A Letter of Agreement to this effect was signed by the two organisations on Wednesday in the presence of Acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Peshawar Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Hawad and Director of Planning and Development Prof Dr Bushra Khan.

Executive Director Kashif Ali and Project Coordinator from Transparency International Nasreen Memon were also present on the occasion. This initiative will select 35 studentsfrom different depart- ments of the university, providing them with an opportunity to engage in a nine-month program led by Dr Shakeel Malik, assistant professor, Institute of Management Studies, University of Peshawar.

The programme will deepen the participants’ understanding of climate change, policy development, sustainable practices, and the socio-economic dimensions of environmental issues.The participants will benefit from a curriculum designed to challenge and expand their knowledge, equipping them with the skills necessary to contribute to global efforts in combating climate change.

“The fellowship programme is not only an educational journey but also a platform for young leaders to advocate for meaningful change and sustainable practices in their communities and beyond,” said Shakeel Malik.

He informed that upon successful completion of the programme, fellows will be awarded a certificate of completion and gain recognition from esteemed international organisations. “This endorsement will serve as a testament to their dedication and expertise in the realm of climate governance, significantly enhancing their career prospects and influence as environmental advocates,” he added.

The partnership between the University of Peshawar and Transparency International signifies a shared dedication to nurturing a generation of informed, skilled, and motivated environmental leaders. This Youth Climate Fellowship Program embodies the collective aspiration to create a sustainable future through education, innovation, and action, he said.
